okay....just listen to me, the next time you go out and this happens AGAIN, show him the way to the next train station. Tell him, "look, I think I've had about enough of this". 10 years is a long time to know someone, know their habits, dating habits, financial and overall life's habits. It's been fine up until 8 months ago BECAUSE you were just friends, but you added something to the friendship, you converted it into something romantic. I can understand maybe just going back to being the close friends you've always been, but don't complicate it. Seriously, someone can't tell you they love you one moment, say what he says in the next when you're out and about and actually be in tune with himself or you for that matter. This isn't about you at all, I'm sure. This is about him, about not be able to make up his mind about what he really wants and it's only enhanced when your out somewhere. Perhaps when you go out, he sees other chics and starts making internal comparisons. At this point you're cramping his style " I don't want to see you, I hate seeing you". Overall advice: Put a close on this romantic chapter, you're better off as friends.

Get out of it, once a guy starts disrespecting you he will keep doing it and it just keeps getting worst and worts, if you think you deserve better than that then go and let it come to you.
Think about what you deserve and what is better for you.

Well if he does this continuously, take control and tell him that he needs to make up his mind. I mean no woman wants to wait around on a guy like that, at least not me!

If anyone "loves you out of pity" they don't love you, they pity you. Get your self-respect back and l-e-a-v-e.
