of all places, I found some GREAT off brand laptops @ www.walmart.com lol.......they carry a few off market brands that I have thoroughly tested and found to have great battery life, nice and light, and a good all around laptop. Of course it's not going to be a powerhouse so don't plan on playing the latest and greatest games, but you can get a more than decent system for the price range you are looking for

For your kind of pricing, try the Taiwanese brand. Their quality are pretty good. In fact, the failure rate of most brand of PC is the about same. I used Twinhead before and it last me some 4 years before I gave it away to some 3rd world countries.
Alternative is to check out some refurbish units from the website for the more premium brands.

The apple Macbook, good battery life, 60-80GB memory, crash free, virus free, can run windows XP, this means there are more games available and ultra fast.
These are rated as the best laptop in the world for they can run both operating systems and are very fast and very reliable.

