My mom said "stop being the town pump". What does that mean?

It can mean you are letting too many people use you for something.It doesnt necessarily mean in a sexual way it can mean anything.Do they use you for a ride?Do they come to you when they want/need money?Do people generally come to when they want something whether it be anywhere from sex to food?That is generally what she is saying.Stop letting people use you.You know which context she meant it in,because you were there.Think back to what you were talking about when she said it,and think of it as people using you for that.That anyone can come to you and you will do something for them whatever it may be.Whatever she meant,it isnt very nice or respectful that your own mother would say that.Talk to her about it and tell her that it was very disrespectful for her to say that even if you are her daughter and that you would like an apology,because reguardless of your age and hers you deserve one for her saying that to you.

It's still true to this day but probably not to that extent.. It is considered as a time for praying and reflection of sins for Catholics... This is why there's almost not much activity going on anywhere and everybody is silent or noises are kept to a minimum.. The Lord is dead at this time so no one should play loud music or yell have a party or merry making except in Churches because it is considered to be a time of mourning..The shows on TV all have either a drama theme or a hope theme and the hours are very limited during the day only... The cable channels, of course, are still the same.. Local channels are the ones who mostly observe this.. Some establishments declare the whole week a holiday and some starts on Ash Wednesday... It is also a mark for school vacation so there's definitely not a lot of activity going on except for really urgent ones... This is more prevalent on Good Friday.. Meat are not being sold as much because fasting is supposed to be practiced by Catholics which meat is omitted from the diet... Seafoods go high because it becomes a necessity and marketable and also because of not a lot of vendors available to sell it due to the holiday as well...

I have never heard it before, but I would assume it would depend on the context. What were you talking about? Do you gossip/have a lot of sex, or whatever? . A town pump is where everyone went to get their water way back in the day so I would assume she meant everyone is going to you to get either gossip or sex or something.

That sounds kind of mean. A parent should not say cruel things to their child.
Perhaps you and your mother need counseling together.
I am the father of two daughters and if they got into bad company or made mistakes I would see where I could help. that does not mean that I don't know where and when to put my foot down .
