Yea that really p.sses me off. Why? Because I'm going to be auditioning for American Idol on Sept 8th in Minneapolis. I might not even get to audition because they let in the sucky a** people just so they can get on tv. It's a singing competition. I understand it's tv, but the main point of this show is to find an american idol, not to put some some horrible singer on tv. It 1. wastes time for the judges 2. is anoying. they pass up so really good singers just to make room for the sucky ones. 3. needs to stop! If i dont get an audition because someone who sucked got to take my place, I'll be so pissed.

I don't think they know they suck. They have probably been told by family and friends that they sound wonderful. You know how your Mom always tells you stuff like that so your feelings don't get hurt.
I think the bad sounding people are the most entertaining anyway and I always watch the auditions. It gets boring when the real competition starts!

Well some really think they are good, some are told they are good, some just want to be on tv, and others just want to do it for fun
I know my friends wanted to go. They wanted to meet the judges, a possible finalist, and they thought the whole experience would be fun. Its safe to say I said no to that idea.

I think it all goes back to parents never wanting to "stifle" their child's "creativity". You know the ones - when the child sings, dances, acts, draws, writes BADLY or whatever (i.e. plays sports) BADLY, the parents say how WONDERFUL they are, how TALENTED they are, how they're going to be a STAR! Instead of suggesting they might have a talent in ANOTHER area, they set them up for BIG disappointment (and embarrassment) later. To me, that's not good parenting, it's cowardice.

It's all for attention. Negative attention is still a chance to be on TV. It sounds rediculous, but hey, that's America!

I think they'd do it for fun just to be on TV or as a joke.
