we recommended an ounce of 100%apple juice to 2 oz water for kids under 4 months and a couple more ounces if a little older. Prunes work like a charm too!

If your baby hasn't pooped in three days or if he struggles, he is constipated. The doc told us to get some OTC mineral oil especially for this. You can ask the pharmacist. The doc told us a couple of tablespoons in the formula and it's a good thing I didn't do any more than a half a teaspoon because it really loosened my son up and he ended up with diarrhea for a week and a nasty diaper rash. Try prune juice diluted in other juice first.

I do not know the age of your baby and would not feel comfortable to give advice with a very young infants diet. I hope you only take advice from a doctor. If you feel your baby is constipated, please consult a professional. Anything involving an infants digestive system should be taken seriously and not diagnosed or treated by anyone other then a doctor. .

when I called to ask the dr this I have been given different answers... they seemed to be levels of intervention.

after 3 days it was recommended to try the juice (full apple juice) approx. 2 ounces. if this didn't yield results within 4-5 hours (it never did for me)
then we were told to
tried a tablespoon of Karo syrup (corn syrup) this worked a few times. but if this didn't help in about 3-4 hours then

we tried half of a baby suppository. this always worked. the problem was insertion. we used a little petroleum jelly and it kept slipping back out. we actually used a q tip to hold it in for a few minutes to be sure it wouldn't slip out

Add a little Karo syrup to the formula bottle. After the feeding, and the burping, take the babies legs and gently "pump" the feet towards the chest, then stretching them straight.

No matter what tell your pediatrician.

Is your baby eating solids? If s/he is then you can feed him/her peaches, prunes or apricots. Stay away from items that are part of the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. These will bind your baby up even more.
