Actually the French were the only ones that were nice to them. The French moved in small groups (such as Fur Traders and Jesuits) and integrated into their language and ways of life. This is why the French moved inland and the British huge the coastal regions.
Actually, when the first explorers came to the Americas they brought terrible diseases and domesticated animal (pigs & horses) which the Indians were not immune to the diseases that the animals carried therefore the population of the Indians was reduced by 95%.
When the British settlers arrived they saw great areas of land that had been cleared off and they believed that God cleared the Indians off for them.
Since they had no clue how to surive they ransacked the local Indain villages and dug up graves for food.
Very few actually took a helping hand from the Indians but they would trade guns, pots and pans for food and knowledge on how to work the lands.

The relations were cordial until there were enough English colonists to overwhelm the Natives (who had already had their numbers decimated by European diseases). Throughout the first half of the eighteenth century (the 1700s) various tribes took sides between the French and British, as the two imperial powers tried to grab as much territory as possible. With war as a pretext, all sorts of previous treaties and agreements were disregarded. Collectively these skirmishes are known as the French and Indian Wars. A young Colonel Washington got his military training during the 1750s.
