The average *college* undergraduate changes majors several times. Follow your general interests rather than focusing... exposure to a broad range of topics is key early on.

I have heard that declaring a major in high school is something that some schools are adopting. I would think that a con of this is that a freshman or sophomore is not mature enough, or has not experienced enough of life, to know what they want to do.

you don't have a broad range of things to choose from. You havent learned everything you need to know to go to college to declare a major. Not enough resorces. A high school isn't going to have a teacher for ever subject (major) to low budgest to pay for all those teachers. That is why college is so damn expensive.

If you would have asked me in highschool what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, i wouldn't have had a clue. Declaring a major is a waste of time because you will change it at least twice before you graduate.

You sound like a Democrat. I believe you on each little thing different than the taxation. inspite of what neocons right here say, Democrats are somewhat reasonable and maximum believe you on issues like unlawful immigration, socialism, etc...
