Hello, So sorry to hear of yours son's diaper rash. My youngest had super sensitive skin and I found airing the best healer. Wash him off well, gently removing the butt paste. Let him be uncovered for a while to air well. You will have to put desitin on after a good airing. I repeated this at each diaper change and it helped to clear up the rash faster. I wish you both well with this.

Keep him as dry as possible. Until his rash is gone you may use twice as many diapers then normal so that you can keep a dry one on him when he wears one.
The next thing is to make sure you air him as much as possible. That means no diaper whenever possible, let him nap without one, someone else suggested towels under him you may want to drape one over him too to keep him from a chill but don't wrap him up.
Stay away from disposable diapers, they are a horrid invention for your baby. All that paper, plastic and chemicals against his skin. After all, it's the baby's health and comfort we need to think about not our convenience.
Plenty of diaper rash cream and use a good medicated baby powder.
Good luck, I hope his bottom clears up soon.

My son is almost 9 mos and has never had diaper rash...my husband is certain it's because we've been using Seventh Generation diaper wipes and diapers. They have no chlorine, bleach, alcohol, or chemicals which is better for the baby (and better for the environment.) We also have always used all natural diaper cream like California Baby brand or Burt's Bees brand...they're great. Good luck to you (and especially for the little guy.)

You have to try Desitin for diaper rash. It is the only thing that has worked for my boys. It is a thick white paste- like ointment that helps treat and prevent diaper rash and protects chafed skin due to diaper rash and helps seal out wetness. I know I sound like a commercial but it really works. One of my sons had the runs real bad and he was "raw" on his bottom. I put Desitin on, and it will sting him at first, but after it was put on he felt so much better. The rash went away after a few days. Try it, it will work.

Try some Maizena (Corn Starch) you can find it at your local grocery store and it REALLY works. I use this on my son whenever he has a diaper rash and it clears it up right away. My doctor also recommended leaving him without a diaper for a lil while so that the diaper wont irritate his skin further more. Good Luck!

My son has terrible bouts of diaper rash, it always clears up with this treatment. Soak his bottom in a bath of luke warm water with about 1/4 cup oatmeal. I run Quaker oats thru the food processor to make it really fine. Let him soak in it for a good long while, then pat dry or air dry and smother bottom with Triple Paste (almost same as butt paste) The oatmeal really relieves the redness and swelling.

Ask your pharmacist for Calmoseptine and try that. It's super thick, so it stays on between diaper changes and helps protect his already tender butt from more urine and feces. It's also got calamine and menthol in it, which is very soothing. Stop using wipes (even the sensitive ones) and wash him off with a soft, damp wash cloth for now. For any really BAD places (open skin) put Neosporin on them a few times a day. I use Calmoseptine on my sons, and it clears them up almost over night. I like it because it's super thick and won't soak into their diaper like A&D or Balmex will...it actually stays on their butts and protects their skin. :)

Hey...try to get some lotromin Af and put it on him twice a day. After having a diaper rash for a long time they can develop yeast and that will make it impossible to heal(my daughter had the same problem and this is what they told me to do)...also..try putting him on a puppy mat (the once they use to potty training puppies) naked at him naps for a few days.

Try using petrolium jelly after you use diaper rash cream to lock out moisture. Also he could have a reaction the type of diaper you're using for him. Try switching to another brand. If all else fails, take him in and get a prescrition.

Corn Starch works really good. My son has a diaper rash right now and you can also put a little baking soda in water and let him soak in it. Also you can let him run around diaper free so he airs out.
