Thumb solids are basically plugs that the pro shop operator will glue into the enlarged hole that he drills. After it sets, he will drill your thumb hole specifications into the solid. They come in various hardnesses too, from soft feel to firm. This is sometimes used when drilling a new bowling ball, but thumb inserts are also readily available too. Same concept as the inserts. When you purchase a ball from a pro shop, it is included with the drilling price. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if you have the right name or not, cuz I have never heard of a thumb solid... I think you might be talking about a thumb slug, in which it is an insert that goes in your thumb hole, similiar to the finger inserts except for the thumb. It's meant to give you a smoother release... I have one, but I think its better to use the bowlers tape cuz then you can take add more tape or take away depending on your release cuz sometimes your fingers swell and then your going to need to take away tape for a better fit..

Again, not sure what you are referring to, so if your talking about something totally different, please clarify.
