Yes we get along well, I've worked all over the world with Americans, the only 'fault' I have come across is they have almost all been overly Nationalistic!
A lot of Brits are Nationalistic also but not to the same extent! That's it really , I cant find anything else to complain about, we have a different sense of humour but nothing that cant be overcome, we have even had a lot of laughs together, we all have more in common than not.
I have even taken Americans home with me on leave, and introduced them to Brit friends in my local bar, I thought that would be a nightmare, but they all stood up well to the initial slagging off and 'wind up' and all ended up having a great time!
They were sorry to leave and vowed to return, we were sorry to see them leave.
You will of course have 'odd balls' where ever you go, but I'm sure you will be welcomed by the majority!
So go for it and good luck.

Yes we do get along very well. I had a few English and Irish friends while understudying in Munich. The only place I experience trouble in Europe was in the Eastern parts but that is only because they haven't gotten the hang of freedom yet.
I did catch some hell in Northern France, but the South have wonderful open friendly people. I kept getting lumped in with Gypsies and Turks while in N. France, it was weird, I don't think they knew I was American at first.
Mostly they will be curious about you, it will be a great experience.

You'll maybe meet a few morons who judge a book by its cover, and think that all Americans must personally embody the views and policies of their government, but they will be a tiny minority. On the whole we like Americans. When Mrs Eck was at university many years ago there was an US student in her halls of residence studying here for a year, and they're still great friends now.
Come on over, 'cause we're lovely too (on the whole), and you'll never be able to say fanny again without blushing...

We love Americans. I am sure you will love it here as you will not have any language difficulties. I adore America and Americans and I think the majority of British people feel the same way. Britain is a lot more liberal than a lot of places in America. If you like New England and their liberal attitues you will feel right at home here. Although we are allies I think its important for Americans to realise we are NOT a fan of G Bush.... Oh and in relation to a previous comment I think you would be mad not to visit London. London is a fantastic city!! - But also visit Bristol and Bath they are great examples of life outside of London. Good luck x

We British (not Brits please) owe a lot to the US for aiding us in the 2 World Wars but younger of us do not really know or care about that
The English are quite restrained with foreigners, but once you get us to open up you find us really friendly and kind. Well most of us ,there is always a rotten apple in the barrel .

No we won't be turned off you because you're American. The anti-Americanism you hear about is mainly directed at George Bush. So, unless you're planning to stand up in public and declare yourself his greatest fan, then you won't have a problem. And even if you do support him you will find us prepared to let you have your funny little ways.
As you said, as long as you act as you should in another person's country - and in England that means being polite and not too loud - then you won't have any problems.
You might find us a bit on the slow side in making friends - see it as shyness rather than not liking you.
You seem like a lovely person in your message and so I don't think you'll have any problems. Try and get to know us and I'm certain we'll take you to our hearts.

Speaking as somebody who is a citizen of both countries - with a British mother and an American father... I can honestly say we really aren't all that different from each other. Sure you get idiots in both places who say stupid things - but you shouldn't take them seriously, as most stuff is said jokingly. The majority of us get along just fine, with no problems at all. :-)

You have to give people more credit. If you are open and remain your self, and take people as they come, they will take you as you come.
Assume nothing, and go with the flow.
I'm positive you will get along fine, should you decide to go to the UK to college. (Best of luck by the way)
People are people. Most folks don't judge a person by his/her nationality. Only the silly and prejudiced ones, and I'm sure you don't want to hang around with THEM?
Don't you worry about what's printed in the media.
cheers.

I think you'll be treated just fine here in the UK hun.Its not the American people that are hated here.its the bum-chuming between Bush and Blair that we don't like.Thats nothing to do with your average American citizen,so you should have no worries about coming here.If anything, because of the attacks in New York and London, its probably given us more in common than before.
