“SECRET SENATOR,” WHO ART THOU? HUNT TO FIND WHO’S SECRETLY HOLDING-UP BILL
Forget secret Santa. This person is being called the “secret Senator.” One U.S. Senator…who’s put a secret hold on a bill that would mandate that the government create a Google-like, searchable database…that would allow anyone to track all government spending. Right now, many in the Beltway, the blogosphere, and beyond want to know who the secret senator is. The sponsors of the legislation are Republican Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Democratic Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

Stevens is probably one of the most irascible and irrational senators that either party has seen in a while. He's not even a zealot, so he can't claim that his irrationality comes from adherence to some ideal.
Read (or watch) many of his floor speeches. He's simply trying to hold on to senatorial power, so that nobody in government is accountable for anything. Especially him and many of the ridiculous spending bills that he has sponsored or demanded.
