I'm more interested in what kind of land was in place before my house was built. I can find the purchase history of my house but thats it.

Help please?

It sounds to me that it is a bit more work then a title company would do. If you want to do a little detective work, go to your county courthouse and start searching through the land records. I've done it and it's kind of fascinating. You should be able to work backwards from the previous owner. Depending on how far back the written records go, you might get lucky and find the original survey records.

Pay a title company or lawyer to do a title search & report. It will report & if necessary give you hard copies of all the documents in your chain of title. It will also tell when the building permit for your house was issued & probably what was there before that.
