First of all pore bleach down all your drains, because that is where they are coming from. Go to walmart (or your choice of store) and buy fly strips. Hang them in several places in your kitchen and also one or two in the bedroom where they are migrating but put more in the kitchen. Do both of these together and you will get rid of them. Will not work if you only do one. The fly strips will work on the little black buggers just like they do on flies. Trust me been there, done that, and are know free from them. Also remember about every month and a half pore bleach down all your drains to keep them gone. But believe it or not that is where they are coming from.

And do not let the jerks who say clean bother you they come from the drains in clean kitchens as well as dirty. (but yes if it is dirty you deffinatly need to clean it otherwise you are fighting a loosing battle)

I'm having this same problem. I've done everything found online to get rid of these annoying pests. I don't now where they came from, I have no indoor plants so I know they're not from that, they don't match any picture of a gnat, they look like a miniature fly! I've dumped bleach down my drains, I've used drano down the drains, I've done put baking soda and vinegar left for 24 hrs following by pouring boiling hot water (straight out of the coffee pot) down the drain.

I've sat out dishes of apple cider vinegar with soap in it, they were not attracted to it to get into it, but that seemed to make me have more. I've bought a raid spray that is intended for flying insects - spray them directly they just fly off and re-land in a minute or two in the same spot I sprayed even with the spray still wet on the surface. They do not seem to hover over any 1 particular thing , they congregate around my coffee pot (which is clean), the cabinet below and above it , all over clean dishes & dirty ones alike. My dishes are done daily, trash taken out daily, everything I can wash (stove, fridge, counters table, etc) scrubbed daily with bleach - the MORE I DO THE MORE I GET! they fly right into our faces, they do not bite , I'm at my wits end, any advice? anything you can think of I've not tried? The link goes to my pictures of these bugs. I have to watch what chemicals I use as I won birds and they're even over taking their room .. I've even put double sided sticky tape around they just walk right over it like it is not there. http://s930.photobucket.com/user/birdluver47302/library/Other%20Stuff

Try to make sure you don't keep soda (or beer) cans or bottles around without rinsing them out. I know some people keep the recyclables inside, cans are easy to crush and toss in without thinking of rinsing them, but they draw the fruitflies like crazy. I know it sounds bad to say "clean the house", but with a toddler in your home you know the possibility that there is a piece of food lying somewhere unnoticed (been there!)

those are fruit flies or fruit fly relatives -- pesky things!, hard to get control of but you have to take advantage of the fact that their life cycle is 10 days, if you get rid of all the larvae & pupae then they will eventually die off, you have to get rid of the adults too. one easy way is to get a snapple bottle and fill 1/5 of the way up with red wine vinegar, they love this and will fall in and drown . orange juice works too. clean up all the fruit on your counters, put them in the fridge, take out all the garbage, don't keep compost in the house, look around for rotting onions/potatoes/garlic, they eat these too. look down in the drains and see if they are breeding down there. familiarize yourself with the fly life cycle, what the stages look like

They sound like fungus gnats. They are drawn to carbon dioxide so breathing out draws them to your face. Let all of your plant soil dry out and that should take care of them.

Fruit flies tend to hang near fruit more. If that's what it is, start by getting rid of the fruit.

Hanging those old fashioned yellow fly strips won't distribute chemicals and if you put them out of reach of your kids should be safe.
