As for myself, I have been an everyday marijuana user for a solid decade now. But that is NOT a psychedelic drug no matter what people say. But I have done cocaine on about 20 occasions or so and every time I have done it I have felt my plane of awareness braoden.

Furthermore, I have done some writing when I have been high on cocaine and I have to tell you, some of the writing I've done is effing BRILLIANT. I could never write that well when sober.

So why is that? Do psychedelic drugs broaden the human mind?

The short answer is yes. But the drugs you mention are not psychedelics, they are classed as narcotics - LSD and MDMA are true psychedelics, as are several others. You should read PK Dick's books - Through a Scanner Darkly, and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch - these are psych classics. But, be aware, I have not taken anything for many, many years, you on the other hand if you are currently doing stuff should be very careful as this message box is open to the world and catch words such as the ones you have used are targetted for investigation. Really, if you would take my advice, quit now while you are ahead - still alive and not imprisoned. Take care.

I believe they can, as well. I have taken acid in the past, and when I am on a psychotropic drug like that, I feel as if I have no bounds to what my mind can do. I believe this is why there are wise men in other parts of the world, outside of the USA, that need no college education, but merely huff away or chomp some shrooms to see inside the human spirit.

Just remember, though...chemical dependence comes on quickly, especially when drugs are used soley to "help" when doing some sort of assignment.

I wish I had the chemical knowledge to know why they work like this, but alas, I do not posses such.

Let's see.. You know these things are illegal, right? I would never take them myself, and I don't recommend them.

And there are dangers with taking them.. I can't predict what will happen. Okay, Magic Mushrooms.

These can be unpredictable. Generally speaking, the experience of psilocybin containing mushrooms lasts four to six hours or more. The effect is typically inwardly oriented, with strong visual and auditory components. Visions and revelations may be experienced, and the effect can range from exhilarating to terrifying. There can be also a total absence of effects, even with large doses.

With that qualifier, recent research has indicated it may broaden the human mind. Read the article below.

Psychedelic drugs can have many effects; They can cross circuit the impulses going to the brain. I think what happens is that all you inhibitions are gone. You express yourself more vividly, then when you are sober, but that doesn't necessarily broaden your mind, it however could fry it. I have two friends from the psychedelic generation that are vegetables, one trip fried their brains. It was too bad because they were very intelligent.

Cocaine is not a psychedelic drug, either. So much for brilliant.

yes they do because your presumption of the world is totally different and so is your mind set you see what is reality but don't have to deal with it until you come down off the high then it totally sucks because you have to go back to being a grown up again

Yes, they do---on occasion. But if you're up tight, they only get you more up tight and that's not good...Forsake them all together and find your TRUE self...Life is a HIGH unto it's own!

broaden maybe, but elevate (especially over time) no.

wait till your sober evaluation of your 'elevated' scribbles become mostly 'unhelpful'.

sure they are creative, but useful? not so much.
