It is, but be prepared to have a lot of pressure piled onto you by the physicians. If they give you something to transcribe and tell you that they need it the next morning, then they mean it.

I have a friend who does this, and she loves it, because she can be home with her older children. She says it's nice, but the only thing is you really have to be super disciplined. Otherwise, you can end up with half the day gone and no work done, especially if you have little children. She worked in an office as a transcriptionist first, getting her training that way, then went on her own.
So she didn't have to pay for the training. The courses are pretty expensive. I have considered doing that, but can't really afford to leave the job I have now, and I've been a medical claims adjuster for 30 years. If I were going to do it, I'd go to a community college, as it would be less expensive than the schools who sell only that service. If you don't already have a job to give up, you might consider going to a major hospital first and try to get into their transcription department as a trainee.

I think it would be good that way in that case you won't have to be bothered with others and getting caught up with other people's dramas as well. I know I would be at a home job, oh and especially having the manager nagging you all the time telling what or what not to do.
Like I said, I think that it would be a perfect thing for you like doing something on the internet or something

I you are a very good typist, I think writing term papers for college kids pay a whole lot better.. 5 to 20 dollars a page, double spaced , most of the time front only. Go to all local colleges and post your rates and phone number....with permission of the college.....good luck

No it is not!.. My daughter tried it as a second job and the pay was pitiful. I forgot how much she made, but it was based on pages. They came into her home and set up the proper computers and she was typing medical reports from Doctors, and most were foreign and she could barely understand them.
I forget what her pay was, but you better know the "Doctors"s PDR by heart. ..You have on ear phones and they dial into your computer from as far away as necessary. Don't do it is my daughter's advise.

My sister in law started in a hospital that way and had all kinds of trouble understanding the foreign Doctors. After working at it for a few years and learning all the short cut keys and medical phrases.(Long learning curve), she was earning 60,000 a year when she died of cancer. heart disease. Don't kid yourself, it's hard work and there are many problems with others. It's highly competitive, and a cut throat situation for beginners.
You only get to work at home after years of working in a hospital and they trust you with their machines.

Most I have heard about were scams.
Don't give them any money up front for training or anything.
Friend of mine was bilked out of $4,500. for that exact thing.
At least demand some names of people who are doing that and actually make a decent income (more than one, could be a shill)

I have met people who do this job from home and they liked it. Someone did ask this question a few weeks ago, so you might want to search on this topic.
