not necessarily, I broke up with my boyfriend about a year ago. I called him several times after we broke up because of habit - not because I missed him or cared. Once I broke the habit I didn't call him anymore.

He may still contact you because he cares, or he may not contact you because he cares and is doing what you ask.

Or how about he might respect your wishes, and not bother you, if that's what you asked him to do, or rather not do.
