a good interviewer will spot a liar and an interview is still the best snapshot of a persons character and ability.

No the best way to rate someone would be to get them to do the job for a bit and see if they could. Unfortunately, it would be impractical and costly and take ages to give all the candidates a chance. So the interview is a good way to assess people. Plus, there's lots of help out there for doing good interviews (on internet etc).
How do you know if most people 'lie during an interview'? Some people 'might' lie but then they'd end up with jobs they couldn't do and wouldn't enjoy.
The important thing is to prepare yourself as thoroughly as you can, go to the interview with a friendly, yet professional attitude and treat the whole thing as a great opportunity to practice doing interviews.
Getting the job then becomes a bonus.

NO WAY IN HELL AND NEITHER ARE CVS...
In the real world people get jobs they dont like as they need the money so will be prepared to do the job... get that one shoved in your head. Its not a question on if they will perfectly fit... they wont... Why do you think people become prostitutes?
A CV is a social skills pysche game of bullshit and lies where people are trying to fit some unrealisitic daft idea an interviewer has and there is not notion as to why opeople need the job etc... People are not who they are...
So heres the alternative... Apitude test...
Im going to work as an event steward... In my first day on the job say a work trial it woruld be appropaite to drop me in some kind of fake emergency to see how I cope, send me those who cant speak english and maybe even but me in a fake firedrill only making me think its for real... See how I cope even if dont know whjat to do can try and work something out...
Or say a mecahanics... give them a broken car to fix
etc
It exculdes all the rubbish like young people pretending they are virgins who never go out clubbing or covering up this or the interviewer faking what the job will involve, it avoids silly psychometric tests which try and pigeon hole you not showing who you are
test them with a realsitic sinario and tasks
thats the fairest way to do it

I think that an interview is a good tool to get a feel for a person, more than for what they're saying. Anyone can give an interviewer the right answers, but it's most important to come across as sincere and truly interested in the job.

In my past experience I have done blog searches and found some surprising things! I have made that a standard in hiring practices! Also, I have found that being prepared for an interview is the best bet and ask the same question at different points of the interview. See if you get the same answer. Keep the questions flying kind quick; see how well he/she can dance. You want someone on their toes...

No. Give them a trial period. Get them to do a practicle example of the skills they'd need.. I suck at interviews but i have a high IQ, and im capable of a lot. I dont like being "grilled" which is how interviews make me feel.

I can say that the interview is only one step for getting into the office but prove of what they are looking for will give them praise.
