My husband remembers a movie about a skydiving family that did this show and the youngest person in the family's parachute did not open and he died. They all had colored smoke coming out of their shoes, according to my husband.
As a side note, my husband lost his sister in a plane crash on July 29th, she was going up on a plane with other skydivers when it crashed. He dreamed last night about the movie that he saw so long ago and had not remembered until then.

Sounds like THE GYPSY MOTHS, but the three guys traveling around with their barn storming skydiving act are not related. It stars Burt Lancaster and Gene Hackman.
