depends on the league settings. if your league has the default public fantasy football settings, then picking him in the 1st round is a mistake (i dont believe taking any qb is a good idea in the first round), but it's not if your league settings favor throwing yards (ie 1 point for completions, etc).
Carson Palmer is ranked 30 (mid-3rd round) in yahoo leagues, and getting him in the 4th round is going to be really tough considering his gem against the Packers answered all questions about his ability to perform this season. If you want Palmer bad, I wouldnt try and wait until the 4th round, most likely he wont be there

I took him on the 4th round, when everybody was still scared because of his knee and before his incredible game on Monday.
Now I expect him to be the second QB taken in any draft. Some crazy folks are going to take him in the 2nd round. You should wait 'till at least the 3rd.

I would say that if everyone knows what they are doing then depending on the league probably round 3-4 he is probably the 4 best QB but some may pick a WR like T.O. first.

great question. if i were you (and i've won all my leagues for the last 5 years..and on average i play 8 a season) i'd not pick him til the 6th or 5th. hell even later. there are a lot of great qb's out there and in all honest you can get brady LATER in the draft-because people sleep on him so much.
hell even arron brooks is gonna be a decent player that many are sleeping all because espn say's he's gonna be junk. don't hold last year against him. new orleans was terrible for one reason and one only-katrina. they had no home and so they are lost and just down and out.
brooks won't win the league for you but you can get delhomme pretty late on average as well.
if i were you i'd target all top rb's and wide outs in the top 5 to 4 then in the last i'd go for the qb like delhomme. if you can hold out even brooks later.
if you take all them fine backs early and wide outs early you can always trade later.

I'd say third/fourth round. by that time most of the good RB/WR are gone leaving you with mainly reserve players to pick from. Someone just might be crafty, like me in my league, and pick him earlier just to secure a good QB. onyl thing worse than picking up reserve RB/WR is picking up reserve QB's from the waiver.

4th round is the right time to draft Palmer, not too earlier. He might not last until the 5th round.
