That's kind of hard, because there were so many competing groups with different things. I guess for religion you could talk about how the different groups had freedom to practice the religion they thought was right, economics- they all used native americans to help them get different types of things. Some used trading for furs, different vegetables, even labor. Politically, only the spanish still honored the crown, the colonists mostly came over here to avoid the monarchy. I think that there is some points that are valid others you can argue. Basically, they all came over with high hopes of free living of the land and no confrontations, easy street, but when they got here, life was tough. They were sick from traveling, brought rats and insects in the straw over here that ruined a lot of the crops, and the land was not very conducive to their crops they wanted to grow.

The colonists were, in general, a small isolated group of people, and the longer they stayed there the more they had in common with each other and the less they had in common with the country they had left behind.

i totally disagree, there were some whose belief kept them in church all day, and others who worshipped on saturdays i think what kept them together was the idea of freedom to worship as they wished without persecution - the colonies were settled by the british and te dutch there were jews and irish too

I would say it's true because, if nothing else, they eventually became allies against a common enemy: Britain, their mother country.
