I know it's uncomfortable to have a pelvic exam the first time. It's very normal to not want anyone, even a doctor, seeing what you've always kept private. But for your health's sake, it must be done. Once you've had a pelvic exam, you'll be fine and not stress over it. OB-GYNs see so many patients every day they don't care about anything except your health. Please go in spite of your feelings. It's just a part of becoming a woman! .....and it will help take care of your pain and irregular periods.

I am 20 now and had problems with my cycly being irregular, okay mine was pretty much nonexsistent. I started my cycle when I was 13 and everything was pretty normal, but by the time I was fifteen it was getting irregular and from the time I was 16 to 20 I had had maybe three periods and they were all induced with medicine. It may not seem like anything serious but it could be. I understand your uncomfortablness with seeeing a gyn, but it woudl be a good idea to go. I went for my first time in May and well actually I didnt even see a gyn I saw my normal doctor (who is trained in just about everything) and he did the exam which was akward at first, but you'll get over the akwardness and definetly be relieved to get some help and get thigns back to normal. For me all it took was being on birth control to level out my hormones which when tested were all normal but my estrogen was so far at the low end of normal that any lower and they would have considered it low. Dont worry just remember to relax and everything will be fine! I promise.

The first time I went to the GYN, I cried a LOT.. I was screaming... I HATED knowing that people were looking down there and touching me down there... I HATED it...
But after that, I was fine. I started being very comfortable. Make sure you get a woman doctor. You will feel a lot more comfortable. And ask for someone with a lot of patience;-) That way you can be as shy as you want and take as long as you want. I had two really nice ladies for my first time, and even though I was bawling, they really were great. Very patient.
I wish you luck!!!!
I promise you, though. Eventually you WILL get used to it and you will wonder why you ever were scared and cried (maybe?) the first time you go.

PS: I wanted to add something. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EMPTIED YOUR BOWELS BEFORE YOU GO IN TO HAVE THE EXAM!!!! I didn't do this and the stupid doctor kept on mentioning it.. It was SO embarrassing.......

Ok first, go to the doctor! Your periods are not normal and you could have something serious wrong. Besides you dont want to mess around with things down there, you might want to have babies someday. Have your pediatrician recommend someone who is patient and caring and that doctor will put you at ease before he begins the examination. You may even feel more comfortable with a woman doctor. But you need to get checked out.

Sucks but the gyn is the only one who can help you. Usually for your first appt. they will talk to you and ask some questions so you can find out how comfortable you are with them at that time. At some time you will need them so you might as well suck it up now and go. Be open with them from the beginning. Call and tell them exactly what you have said in your question here and they may be able to help with your issues. GYN has been around for too many years for you to be the first person with this sort of issue.

I'm so sorry..I totally understand what you are going thru. Mine have always been irregular as well and the pain is totally unbearable at times. But you really do need to go to a doctor so they can help you. I'm a private person too and I don't like doctors either but I started going to woman doctor and I'm really happy with her. Maybe you might be more comfortable talking to a woman..everyone is different in that area. I think that we are more embaressed than a doctor will ever be. They see patients everyday like that. Good luck to you and go to a doctor! :o)

My youngest daughter had the same problem as you do. I took her to a gyn, she was very nervous also. He gave her a sample of Birth control Pills. She tried them and the results were amazing. With in a couple of months, she was regulated and the pains subsided. Try to
do this for yourself. The pains will hopefully stop and you will not have to suffer anymore.
This is the best advice that i can give you.
Hope it helps and you feel better soon.
Loving Parent, Good Luck!

If it's any consolation, OB's don't judge you. They take a look and help you to the best of their ability. You need to go get checked out.
So, give this some thought: Would you be more comfortable with a man, or a woman. You need to choose.
I am more comfortable with a man OB.
Good luck, sweetie! And don't sweat the small stuff. An hour later, you'll have all the answers you need and all the peace of mind you can handle. But go!!!

You should just go to the doctor. It may seem scary at first (i didnt want anybody looking down there myself) but the problems you are having are very abnormal and need to be checked out. Find a doctor with a nice clean facility and one that you feel comfortable with. Trust me...you're much better off just takaing care of the issue rather than letting it continue. Good luck!!!
