But if you're totally hot and an inconsiderate or bad person, you end up lonely, a one-night stand, and completely unfulfilled.
I'll take ugly & loved any day.
How you feel about yourself is a state of mind. If you have a self-esteem ritual you need to feel good about yourself, maybe you want to look at that as an addiction and get over it. "Looking like crap" is your opinion, and you are your own worst critic.
Look at Hendrix, Cobain, Morrison, MLK, The Queen, THatcher(shudder), Woopi, Diane Fossi, Winnie Mandela...none of them are beauty queens and they're beloved by millions. You think they need an hour to get ready?

I think you are on the right track. It is good for a young lady or even old lady to care about her appearance. You should always do that especially if it makes you feel good to do so.
However, maybe you have yet to have a day where you look like a million bucks, not a hair out of place or smudge on your nail polish and you still feel like crap.
Some of the prettiest people do the ugliest things...and that is why beauty is only skin deep. Have to be able to look past that and see something else worthwhile because cute ain't everything, and physical beauty fades fast.
MEAN PEOPLE AGE IN DOG YEARS....if you know any next time you see them remember i told you that.

I know what you mean. Even back when I told people that I don't care what someone looks like, I realized that I do care--a lot!
Looks are important for first impressions and often for confidence. However, when you've gotten to know someone, then yes, looks won't matter nearly as much. Another instance is when you run into gorgeous people with rotten attitudes. So there are times when that is the case.
There's nothing wrong with having great hygiene and taking care of the body and taking joy in looking good. But if it becomes an obsession, it's not healthy. Plus, you start annoying your friends with your obsession. So, in that case, beauty is skin deep in the fact that it is not the most important thing in life.

Because the outer shell is what we have to deal with. The inner core, no matter how black and disgusting it may be is not something we see on a daily basis, or at all. That line is used to make people who are ugly feel better about themselves.
But the thing is that a person who is happy and self confident doesn't always appear ugly to some people. So, yes, if you feel horrible about yourself, it will definitely show. And nobody wants to be around a person who has a cloud over their head.

The saying certainly seems daft in an age where women especially are consistently brainwashed into believing they are imperfect and must buy products to address those imperfections.
Neverthless whats inside does tend to show through our attitudes to our fellow humans and creatures...I guess thats why we sometimes see ugly, [ by commercial standards] people with amazingly attractive partners. [ by commercial standards].
If you think you look like crap, chances are your brainwashed by the media and not realising how much model pics are 'improved ' with airbrushing and multitudinous other techniques. Did you ever actually see anyone that perfect in real life? Relax..your boyfriends right. He obviously loves you as you are.

True! But, the cuteness is most likely to fade when you get older. What's gonna be left is your heart and personality. Especially when we are elder. We'll have many wrinkles. But that's just part of life. And looks are decieving. Many people have friends or bfs or gfs for their looks. Everything ends up totally wrong. They live a sad, sad life.

pretty is only skin deep, beauty goes to the bone. That is to say if a woman thinks she's pretty she's more than likely shallow and if she's beautiful why then there's no rubbing it off... I new a true beauty once her scent is still in my mind....

If you have to look good to feel good, thats called vanity.
If you feel bad ok you may look bad, But if you cant laugh with a mud pie on your head and your face smeared you are some plastic doll.
To be dirty is nasty and to be unkempt is a bad look.
