Ah, but who would look after the Ompa Loompas if he didnt. They have a safe environment to live in and work they enjoy, how would society treat them if they didn't. And he really only gets rid of the bad kids. The good ones get to eat chocolate. I think I would be more concerned about the grandparents who stay in bed with each other all the time.

Willy Wonka is the shining image of fair treatment. Each one of those kids were awful, bratty and spoiled in someway (except Charlie ^_-) He could have kicked them out of his factory, but instead he let them punish/own themselves. Hopefully they learned something from it.

Oompa Loompas lived in a horible place before the factory, Wonka saved them from all the nasty stuff out there. Since Wonka gives them free run of the place to work, I would imagine they could probably leave if they wanted to.

perhaps he is a metaphor so children who watch learn about the right ways of establishing themsleves for the future? Guiding a child to a point with a positive conclusion is never evil in my book

HEY MR!

The oompa loompa's were paid in coco beans! No one kidnapped the little suckers!

and as far as hurting children goes... Read the disclaimer and liability act before entering the factory!

Their parents hurt them....

"Hey, little girl, don't touch that squirrels nut's, it'll make him really mad."

Johnny can depp his willie in my wonka anyday!

Yes, definitely evil. Look at the tunnel scene in that movie with all those images like the pig head. Plus he wrote that evil contract with the extremely fine print and coerced the children into signing it.

Forgot to mention that he laid off all his employees creating massive unemployment in the city, too. It's not that he's evil...his character is self-centered, eccentric, and socially isolated.
