For anyone to live past that age has to be "genes". My next door neighbor was 97 when he passed away. The main reason he passed away was the simple fact that his children placed him in a nursing home afraid that he may fall and hurt himself. Bad excuse. His grandaughter came to cook for him four days a week. He only ate breakfast, and it was huge according to her.
She had his house spotless, and we talked each day. He was very hard of hearing but I can talk loud also. He cut his own grass until they killed him by placing him in a "nursing home" . That is the last stop before the "Hearse" comes to get you.
I remimber when Mellony carried him to see a Doctor about his arthritis..Mr. Mullinax could hardly hear and he did not hear this conversation between Mellony, and the Dr. He said Mellony, your grand-father is almost 100. There is nothing more that I give him for his pain except for a "Loratab", and not before he ask for one.
He was placed in a home a little later, and died shortly thereafter.
I went to see him and he was in such good spirits, walking around, joking, and who was I "shacked up with". That was Mr. Mullinax. He never complained about leaving his house but inside he had to be mentally pissed at his family. He flirted with all his nurses, and the time he was there he had a ball. A 'two-week ball".
Here is the kicker! He had a brother about 80 miles away. Guess how he and his wife died. First of all is brother was 106 yrs. old his wife was 99...I'am very sad as I write this, but they were killed in a "Mobile Home Fire" in Huntsville, Al.
I just can't imagine live to be that ripe ole age and "dying" in a dam fire. Rody

Yes I do know of a local lady who was 102 and living on her own up until she died sadly last year.
She never had been married and was quite well off so she had little stress in her life and had not much to worry about in that respect.
I believe she ate simple basic foods like porridge for breakfast and home made cooked meals and bread.
I would think that she inherited longlivity from her family and never had much illness even in her life.

I know a little lady who is 102. She gets around as good as I do and I'm 34. She only takes blood thinners and she has a glass of Blackberry wine every evening. She says it's in the wine...

Yes. My great-grandma lived to be 104. And her daughter, my grandma just died this week at the age of 90. And, thinking of their personalities, I'd have to say a wicked sense of humor played a big part.

Yes, my grandmother, lived to 102.
She walked a couple miles each day, had a reason/purpose to get up each morning and had a great sense of humor.

when i worked in a residential home,a lady who lived there was 99yrs old,she could do everything herself,go to the toilet, wash herslf etc, amazing woman, but the week before her 100th birthday, she began to deteriorate, and took to her bed, very sadly she passed away the day before her birthday,i have never witnessed anything like it before, but had to sit with her until the end of my shift,i held her hand,i thought she was looking at me,but her eyes were just slightly open, glazed,i spoke to her the whole time,i didnt know if she could here me or not,but at least she wasnt alone,4hrs later,2hrs after my shift ended, that special lady peacefully passed away,oh how i wish she could have had her 100th birthday,it was a lot to take in,as i was only 23yrs old at the time, but it makes you realise how precious life is,grab it with both hands, treasure your family, people are told not to get too attached when working with the elderly,as you never no whats round the corner, beleive me its hard, but the lady who died was a heavy smoker in her younger years and liked the odd glass of wine,to be honest with you,i dont think its anything to do with what your lifestyle is like, when its your turn, you've got to go.thats why i cant understand why there are so many miserable people out there,,enjoy life, you only get one chance

Yes a few people. What they all had in common was a positive attitude. And they were all slim. And active.
