I run ads in to local papers, have signs, pass out occasional flyers...what else can I do to get the word out?

Try running a craft night, where you will teach a group of people how to make an easy craft. Pick a different one each week, and charge just for materials. When people get together to have fun doing things as a group, they don't tend to waste so much time worrying about the cost.

Have an open house... serve coffee, offer a complimentary class during the open house. Go to a networking meeting in your town (BNI is a great one) and join the Chamber of Commerce. You might also ask your friends to invite their friends to the open house so that they will bring in people who can use your services.
Also, try getting a website and offering online discounts... that often attracts people.

How about someone demonstrating a craft in the store? It will create interest and give people the idea they can do it to, with the supplies they buy from you.

Filling a need or desire i way to get people in your shop. If you have something people want or need, people will come. If you don't, you missed the mark! It really is that simple

the best way to get business is word of mouth. maybe throw a function to draw more people. pay attention to similar businesses to see how they get their customers.
