Any activity where your ring may get snagged on something and damage your finger. I fly airplanes, and we remove rings before flight. Guys have had their fingers ripped off when something hangs on your ring. Nothing left but bare bone of the finger with no "meat" on it.
I've also had my finger jammed by footballs, basketballs, and baseballs. Once, I caught a baseball on the palm of my glove, and it smashed my wedding ring flat on my finger. That was a tough one to remove.

If your wife is Neurotic enough that she doesn't want you to take it off while playing basketball, lifting weights or swimming, you may want to reconsider your marriage. My wife is a dentist so she never wears hers and I don't really care, but I wish she would wash it once in a while. I take mine off for the aforementioned reasons only. It's just a band so it can take some abuse.
Now that I think about it I took it off a lot when I worked stocking at the grocery store because I heard a story of a guy who was on a upper bay of something and he fell. He would have been fine having just fallen from that distance but his ring got caught on something. The ring Zigged and his finger zagged and that's why I took mine off when working in the bays.

There is no hard and fast rule. Surgeons must remove their rings for surgery and prefer to wear it around their necks on a chain. Sports can hurt your hands if you wear a ring so just be careful and dont lose it thats all

For basketball I take off all kind jewelry, seen some nasty cases with watches and rings (particularly to the face).

Oh yeah, love my wife but hardly wear the ring...
I use my fingers/hands alot at work for precision, and I play golf and billiards.
I don't wear ANY jewelry so when I do wear my ring it's usually the only piece I have on...

It is a good idea to take of your wedding ring, as well as your watch, necklace and other jewellery. You could accidentally scratch some one or you could get hooked in someones clothing(karate and judo) and rip half your finger off.

Any physical activities between players should require that all jewelry be removed. Male vs female does not matter.

If it is just a plain band, you shouldn't have too unless it bothers you. My husband only takes it off if he is doing something mechanical. That's it. Sports no.
I wear a plain band all the time. The diamond anniversary band is worn occassionally. I do everything with my band...no prob.

Any activity where it can get caught on something and yank your finger off (yes, believe me, i do know someone it happened to).
Consider putting it on a chain and wearing it around your neck during activites when you want to take it off.

its not a question of love but a question of safety if you remove your wedding ring while working, doing sports, etc. i nearly lost my finger while working on my car, it connected across the battery terminal and got red hot.
