It doesn't sound like an illness to me, it sounds like simple problems with sleeping patterns and quality of sleep - such as if your bed was in need of replacing or you have something worrying you. Sleep is a funny thing, having more sleep doesn't solve the problem of being tired; also just being awake doesn't mean you'll actually be awake.
I'm a classic example of this, I can sleep for well over 13 hours sometimes and feel like doing nothing all day, I put it mostly down to a real need for a new bed, and sometimes down to stresses of the day.
In all fairness if you are doing nothing through the day but sleep and watching TV then this will make you feel drained, exercise, find yourself something specific to do with your time a goal in your life at the moment you can aim towards.
When you do sleep make sure to keep the time you go to bed consistent, at a reasonable time, and make yourself wake up at a reasonable time - aim for around 8 hours sleep per night.
Deal with any emotional issues, although sleeping problems will make you a wee bit loopy (as well as having similar problems to you right now I used to suffer from insomnia…so trust me, I know that one well!) there may very well be something causing emotional problems you have not quite addressed, at very least try not to go to bed stressed or thinking too much.
It is possible there are medical reasons behind this; most obvious would be bad diet – increase water intake, proteins, eat more veggies. Possibility of diabetic or anaemia problems or similar, in which case a diet change would help and be the first stage of deciding if it is something like hypoglycaemia or something more serious that you would have to talk to your doctor about.
I do feel your pain, you just have to work through to see what the problem is, diet and lifestyle changes first, professional medical opinion after that.

David I am a sufferer of CHRONIC FATIGUE which makes you extremely tired and can bring on depression that makes you feel very low. I am wondering if you are on any type of medication, I had some tablets for depression which made me feel like crying at the least problem and I am a 63 year old male!
Is your sleep very restless? Do you snore bad? You may also have a sleep problem.
I would suggest you get some help if you all ready have you may need a medical person who believes CHRONIC FATIGUE is an illness as some don't here in Australia!
I am not a medical person but suffer from some of the symptoms myself.

I don't know the medical history, and I am not a doctor, But knew somebody like that and he was diagnosed as bi polar, and depressed.
I just read an article in Life Extension Magazine September 2006 issue on the health benefit of Fish oil (Omega 3 fatty acids) that may help turn around depression. I personally have been using Omega 3 fatty acids for about a year now. Go to www.lef.org or get the magazine from your local Whole foods market.
People need goals and something important to do with their lives to feel good, as well as proper nutrition.

My solution is to go visit a doctor after ruling out a physical health problem get a job at least one preferably 2 or even 3 hobbies. to keep myself busy.
Those that don't stay busy often "checkout" prematurely please get some help to correct the problem you have.
Depression is an illness of the mind requiring different approaches to heal from damage and often fixing a mental problem can cure a physical one because the mental and physical are 2 aspects of the same thing.

I hate to be a pain but you need to give a bit more information. Sounds like depression, but it could be more of a sleeping disorder such as Sleep Apnea. Which may cause depression instead of the other way around. There are sleep tests that can determine this and most insurances cover the cost of these. You'll have to ask your doctor for specifics.

if u were a girl u would be pregnant but since ur not, then u r depressed i know the feeling i went trough that for 5 years and i can tell u it is not worth it those were years wasted in nothing , only u hav the power to come out of it . Do you have changes in eating habits -lost or gained weight recently? You may be experiencing depression and there is help out there for that condition. Find a local mental health clinic and talk to someone. There is no shame in this, if you are depressed- it happens to many people.

i,m sorry i can,t help directly but what you describe sounds to me like some serious sleep disorder sutch as i have had myself. my advice would try to get this person to a clinic or doctor who is a specialest in psycatry. this sounds so mutch like my problem it scares me to hear about it. they should get medical help fast because the sooner they do the sooner they will feel better and be less emotional, my best wishes to you
