Our neighbor has one. He fills it up at the beginning of summer. Then lets it go to brown water till late summer, cleans it one more time, then sits there dirty till next summer. How are these types of pools supposed to be dealt with? It's creating a mosquito heaven. There nice people, just hillbillies. It's probably 3-1/2 ft. deep X 20 ft. wide.

people dont' understand how much of a waste these pools are.

one, they are plastic and don't hold chemicals well
two, once they are slimmed over by algae and junk there is no sense in cleaning it...just throw it away.

i would suggest a call into the health department, because it is unsanitary to have something like that and poses not only danger if a child were to fall in (wouldn't be able to see the body) and two it will harbor all sorts of bacteria, not just mesquito's.

it is against the law to keep a pool like that, so give the health department a call.

good luck!

We have a 18 foot diameter, 42 inches deep inflatable pool which we set up in the beginning of July and take down by the end of August. Those pools are not heated and to leave them longer does not invite a swim as the water gets too cold. Also even with chemicals the water will eventual discolour and makes swimming less invitational. Your neighbour should really deflate the pool, clean it and store it for the off-season months. Tell him I told him so.

If you don't feel that you can talk to them and resolve it, you might have to get a tad sneaky. You can buy these pellets that are designed to be tossed into small ponds to keep mosquito's from breeding. Surely you could toss a few into his green pool without too much trouble.

To the other posters that think you can't keep an inflatable pool clean, you need to check out the chlorine generators. I have one for my large above ground pool and it stays crystal clear all year long. I just add 120lbs of salt to the water and set the chlorine generator to work at night. I never have to add any chemicals and have absolutely loved it!

If it's not being maintained, tell him to pack it up and use his yard more constructively. The way he's going about pool ownership is not just a health hazard, but a physical safety issue as well. I've known neighbours of people like this that have resorted to poking small holes in the pool, to get rid of the problem, once and for all. Not that I'm endorsing that behaviour, but I can understand their frustration.

I actual have a 10ft pool for my son and hit upon a product referred to as Aquablanc Plus large for protecting our pool water hygienic for a summer of approx 8 weeks. It disinfects the water and forestalls algae boom. The disinfection is depending on the lively oxygen disinfection approach, and the product is likewise chlorine-loose,that's more beneficial valuable for smaller toddlers. The product is amazingly easily packaged in sachets, that you upload on to the water per week.
