This is simply an organizational issue. Astronomers had to make sure the main eight weren't so obscured that the word Planet had no significance anymore (as we'd end up having hundreds of planets in the end.) Pluto will always be famous anyway as the planet that was pulled from the books (a little like Ceres was in the 19th century, but more people were educated about Pluto.) I think Plutos status of being almost a dual dwarf planet with Charon will make sure it is continued to be studied as much as the original eight. Walt Disney made sure we'd always know about it too. "Xena" is bigger than Pluto BTW and was the main factor for Pluto's demise.

I still consider it a planet but made up of mostly Ice and very extreme cold weather and no matter what science may say about it is more then a ball of ice. The only reason it just ice is because the sun rays dont touch it like other planets

I can't say that I'm happy one way or the other, I guess like a lot of people that grew up with it being a planet, it's a little blow to nolstalgia, but I'm glad they finally have a concrete definition. I've actually heard very little about it, but to my knowledge, it's still a planet, just a dwarf planet. We're talking about something that's smaller than our moon, so I imagine that it makes some sense. I am glad that it was an issue, maybe it will bring more awareness to the space program.

Hi. Most of the universe does not care what "we" think or call things. It is more important, in my mind, that we try to understand nature.
