Probably major depression, they have to be very unhappy about something that makes it seem there is no point in doing anything. Watching television is often a time-filler for most people. My friends daugther comes out sometimes whilest i'm round there and complains about be bored and having nothing to do. So a few minutes later her mum ( my friend ) will go in and suggest a few things to do. And see's her watching televison. Its a common thing also for people to just eat and eat and eat whilest they are bored or depressed also. They never seem to get full, so they just keep eating.
Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
* CFS is marked by extreme fatigue that has lasted at least six months; is not the result of ongoing effort; is not substantially relieved by rest; and causes a substantial reduction in daily activities.
* In addition to fatigue, CFS includes eight characteristic symptoms:
o postexertional malaise (relapse of symptoms after physical or mental exertion);
o unrefreshing sleep;
o substantial impairment in memory/concentration;
o muscle pain;
o pain in multiple joints;
o headaches of a new type, pattern or severity;
o sore throat; and
o tender neck or armpit lymph nodes.
* Symptoms and their consequences can be severe. CFS can be as disabling as multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, congestive heart failure and similar chronic conditions. Symptom severity varies from patient to patient and may vary over time for an individual patient.

It is absolutely amazing what a lack of purpose in life will do to someone: your friend sounds as though they have no real driving purpose in their life. The remedy is to find a goal that entices the energy toward attainment.
"A life without purpose is like a ship without a rudder"
Once purpose has been found and followed, all other disorderly `happenings' disappear one by one.
Good luck with your purpose in life.
