I've heard that some routers split your download speed, is this true? If it is, are there any that don't?

No, not routers. Some cable modems may throttle your upload and download speed though.

Download speeds and upload speeds are split by the modem that you use. Uploads are slower than downloads. The router is a device that is connected to the modem and splits the incoming signals to different computers in your network by way of a cable or "wireless" connection. If router speed is your concern, check out the new 802.11n. Or look into "Super-G" with download speeds of up to 108 Mbps. 802.11g downloads at 54 Mbps. 802.11b downloads at 11 Mbps.

An incorrectly configured firewall can greatly affect download speed. Also, if you are running a DMZ that will affect the speed of all other connections. Otherwise, NO, routers do not split speed

The only other thing to consider is the more computers you have downloading thru the same Internet connection, the slower each will go. Your Internet ban width is a set speed, and more people accessing it will slow it down
