A bass clarinet is almost the same as a soprano (or classic) clarinet. The differences being: 1. It is larger. 2. It is an octave lower (therefore playing an open - G on it will result in the same note as the soprano's low G for example) 3. It has an E-flat key on the bottom hand. 4. -- and my personal favorite -- it's much cooler and more fun to play

I know what a Bass Clarinet is very well. When I was IN HS, my band instructor demoted me from Bflat Clarinet to carrying around that big dumb @$$ case with a Bass Clarinet! I was so upset that at rehearsal, I would intentionally play the wrong notes or I wouldn't play at all. I hate Mr. Mitofsky to this day for that but I'm grown now & I know better! I still own both instruments and play them from time to time-even now! I hope you enjoy playing. It really keeps you focused and it's a good learning experience as well! Not everyone can say they play it or even know what it is
"Music is the soul of a man"...let it live in your heart forever!
LOL & Be Good...=)

I know what a bass clarinet is. Loud and squeaky is what it is! I used to have a girlfriend in the highschool band that played one. Personally I play anything but woodwinds, I don't have the right skills just yet. My friend is going to eventually teach me how to play saxophone, good luck learning music, five minutes to start but a lifetime to master!

It is a clarinet that has a lower range than a regular clarinet (soprano). Because of that it is grouped with instruments such as the trombone, tuba, oboe.

Yes. It is a large clarinet that have a bassy sound register because of the enlongated pipe. I like how it sounds. It have so much personality as baritone sax but with the warm characteristic sound of woodwind instruments.
