I noticed, one of the answer said it started (the American version of slavery) when the lighter skinned Africans enslaved the darker skinned Africans. So what did the lighter skinned Africans have against the darker skinned Africans?

africans light or dark have enslaved each other for eons,it was the arabs that made it an international trade,even white people used to enslave each other as did asians ,indians all nations have used slavery,it not just blacks who were slaves,

The darker Africans were richer and in a higher social class. The lighter Africans didn't like this so they decided to do some thing about it. May be you should watch the movie "Hotel Rowanda"

the idea of slavery has been around for a long time, slavery because religion was very common, and the greeks and romans would take the people from other countries and use them as slaves when they won wars. and the colonists weren't the first to use slaves because of race, the people in europe often had slaves based on race first, the colonists just kept that way of life when they came, the rich ones that is.

May I respectfully suggest the following book..."The Destruction of Black Civilization"....by Chancellor Williams.The author traveled for 19 years to research this book.It explains among other things what happened in history to discourage man from making White people slaves!!!

Slavery has been around forever. The yanks just made such a
big deal about, people think we started in America. Which is absolutely crazy.

It's not about lighter or darker, although even now, I see this in our society. Someone was simply greedy & his greed caused him to agree to an atrocity that destroyed many lives & families.
