You could create a paypal account for online payments and then put up photos of the merchandise. Godaddy.com is a good site for registering a web address, just make sure that you read all the fine print (when I did mine I accidentally signed up for public instead of private and my personal info end up being displayed on the internet for a week!). If you know how you want it to look and work, maybe you can find someone who's site you like and ask them for some tips on getting started.

Let's turn this question around and ask how you plan to get people to know the shop is there? That is what should be driving your design questions.

If the shop will be advertised by the singer on stage, in newspapers, or by another physical method then a plain website unconcerned with organic search results will do fine. Just get a Yahoo basic website, a PayPal account, and take some pictures.

If you need the traffic of the Search Engines, want to be able to use the website to generate interest in the singer, and use promotional techniques then you might consider using a service to do the website for you. The skills you need to run this type of site will take months/years to learn. The services are very inexpensive (about the same cost as a monthly ad in a local newspaper) and can help you reach the millions of Internet users.

You haven't mentioned how you'll get the merchandise made. Will this affect your website?

If you have no experience is constructing a web site the best thing to do is contact an online store. They provide the web server, software, shopping carts, and credit card processing. They charge a couple of thousand a year. One such company is storesonline.com. There is also Amazon, Yahoo, eBay, etc. They all provide online store services.
