I am building a rocket for my school's tech class... i want to know what would make my rocket go higher... any suggestions?

fire it from a tube like a mortar. if you make the fins so they dont stick out very far from the rocket body then make a sabot that can break away when the rocket leaves your mortar you can get better pressure and speed. dont make the sabot too tight or heavy. styrafoam greased with crisco will do. your tube will have to be closed on the back end.

I suppose it is a solid fuel rocket??? If it is the fuel is packed in with a small hole up through the middle. This will give more area to burn ,thus producing more power.
The tube must be strong and heat resistant.
Get back from it it could explode.

If you are able to add a second or third stage to the rocket, that would make it go higher.

Also, of course:
- Less weight
- More aerodynamic (are the fins tapered on the leading and trailing edges.

Fire it off from the top of a mountain or tall building. That will give you an advantage.
