I am not sure of the answer but would like to comment:
The captain of a ship which is sinking or at least is in trouble should not disembark. If I would write constitutions, I would not allow them to leave on such an occasion. Afterall, if you are there and participating you should help explain and clean the mess.
I hope this helped indirectly to have a new look at the question.
