It is a really wicked, nasty thing to do, I am now a mature lady but when a young girl heard this story about salt, did to see if they really did melt and then when I saw slug starting to fizz felt so guilty that I quickly tried putting water on it to wash salt of, not sure of outcome now, guess maybe that prolonged the agony even more!! Still feel quite bad it till this day. Must be a bit like having acid put on skin and burning away our flesh

Plants have feelings to you know - how do you think they feel being eaten alive!! There's no point to slugs or snails except to ruin the plants in my garden and for that they must die! Also an extreme eco-warrior might argue that slugs aren't environmentally friendly because they eat the plants that give the planet oxygen and thus by salting the slugs we're saving the planet!

If the slugs left my garden alone, I would leave them alone.
Now- I don't salt slugs. But that's because I don't want the salt going in the ground where my plants are.

It is cruel yes but if my dogs happen to eat them, its an expensive vet bill and can make them extremely sick, therefore unfortunately my dogs welfare comes before the slugs, I feel horrible for having to do it but my dogs are my priority. You wouldn't leave a spider or spiders near your children, you would kill them or remove them, I can't remove more then one slug unless I put them in someones yard, and I refuse to put their pets at risk. I pick them up with a tissue and put them in a plastic bag, I picked 3 up with bare hands and it took me ten times washing my hands to get the slime off, at the end of the day they're a pest, and I can't use pesticide slug sprays or pellets as again my dogs safety comes first

Id never dream of doing such a thing! :O
I cant believe how insensitive most pple are on here, slugs do have a point and like any other living thing should not be killed just because pple like seeing a green blob of goo.
As the bhuddists say " harm no living thing " (im not buddist but i do try to live by this law", bad karma comes back on you threefold - you pple have been warned!

i think of so. I generally shrink them in 0.5 with a trowel or spade. it is speedy and that they have not got hours of discomfort as they might in salt. Then, I circulate away them the place i've got halved them, and generally birds come alongside and devour them up. this variety the birds earnings from having their dinner served up for them, they are able to't devour salted slugs, and the salt ought to wreck the backyard the place the slug dies. With snails, i've got got here upon if I bury them shell area down in dirt, they are able to't attain the floor to circulate slowly away, and back the birds love having the captive snail as a delectable snack. it is not merciless, nature might have birds devour snails and slugs besides, I in simple terms help them...

the alternative is to place a tin pan of beer in your garden. they will slither into it and either drown quickly or get totally wasted and party. The salt thing is cruel, you're correct. We just hate walking outside barefoot and squishing one between our toes at nite! Darn things

I skewer them with a piece of wood and throw them on the lawn for the birds. Disgusting things that eat all my plants. Damn them to hell.
However, my sister puts a ring of salt round them so they can never escape! Ha ha ha!

Hey, its the law of nature. There are predators, and there are prey.
Have you ever accidentally put your hand in the trail left by a slug. Its the most slimiest stickiest horrible goo ever. It needs salt to neutralise it.
