Its difficult to tell from that angle but he looks solid not obese. Generally bettas shouldn't be fed all that much but not so little they starve either. Usually fish are very good about knowing how much to eat and they will shun food until they are hungry again.
Too bad we don't learn something from them eh?
I should add that (I have the printed article somewhere in boxes of fish books ugh) you can help your betta stay in TOP condition and live up to 25% longer... with a simple mirror!
For about five minutes a day take a mirror and put it against the bowl. The betta is so aggressive/territorial he will IMMEDIATELY freak out - flare his fins, struggle to kill or chase away the "other" betta (hence the name fighting fish).
Long story short, this is a VERY intense workout for him! Please don't forget and leave the mirror there long or he will go through serious stress for prolonged periods.
If you really want him to live a while, put a female betta in a bowl touching his. He will make a bubble nest, flare out his fins to attract her etc.
This will keep him in top condition - but conversely he'll probably want to eat more due to burning so much energy.
Good luck with your betta.

Dont worry ur betta is not obese. He's pefectly fine. Just feed him regularly. Not 2 much an not 2 little. But if he starts 2 look a lttle chubby than normal then u need 2 lessen his food intake. Bcz u dont want a chubby betta bcz he could possibly die from a heart attack or somethin like tat! An c if u can get him a female 2 go right bside him. An if u want u can start raisin baby betta's. But tats ur decision. So have fun an good luck!

He looks pretty good, based on the picture. If he has been floating on his side and looks a little bloated, he might have a problem with his swim bladder. Not a big deal, just don't feed him for a day or 2. Bettas get backed up (i.e. "constipated") if they eat too much.
I'm adding a source for more information (below) about the swim bladder problem, what causes it, and how to treat it.
I hope this helps!

Overweight??
Your fish is beautiful. I would greatful your fish looks like that.
He is actually probably very healthy, you can tell by the fins, they are vibrant and look "fluffy' which could give the apperance of being over weight but he deff isnt.
And besides Betas only eat untill they are full, so I dont think you should worry

no your betta is not obese. he actually looks quite healthy, and well fed. The older males get, the bigger. and also, males can become bigger because of how they were raised by the father. I have an older male who is almost twice the size of my other two males. so there is no need to worry about him being obese.

Your Betta looks great! I would say he is a bit robust, but healthy. If you are concerned, just cut back just a tiny bit and he will be just fine. Just vary his diet with some live food every now and then. He will burn calories hunting down his food.

it is perplexing to respond to. measurements propose better than weight. Bmi (which says no count while you're "underweight" "person-friendly weight" or "obese") is crap. Yeah it takes on your top and weight yet no longer your physique build, your genetics, your volume of muscle. the only guy or woman who can ensure the type you look and the only opinion that fairly concerns is yours. once you look interior the mirror how do you spot your self?

Well he looks like he's a bit big from that angle but you should feed him 2 pellets every day or 3 pellets every other day.

He does not look overweight to me. Most of the time at the store they do not feed them right and they are too skinny. Yours look normal.
