Wow some people are retarded...this is in the MOTORCYCLE section and all answers are referring to pedal bikes.

I personally like the Kawasaki Ninja, you can get the 250 for 3,000 brand new. Granted it's not near as fast as most other motorcycles, but it's still a motorcycle, and a decent starter bike to see if bikes truly are for you. You'll really enjoy 74mpg too :)

This is the advice I gave to another guy who asked the same question: Take the MSF course! Any GOOD bike shop in your area will have info, and if not I THINK the website is http://www.msf.org. When you get done, you'll be on your way to being a safe, competent rider and you'll be a licensed rider with a 10% insurance discount endorsement on your license. Matter of fact, you'll even drive a car better! If I were you, I'd wait till I had my licence FROM THE MSF to decide on what bike to get, simply because with all the knowlege you'll gain, your priorities may change, resulting in you wanting a different bike than you want now. Don't listen to most of these people, because they're talking through paper a'ssholes. Leaking s'hit on you. They obviously have little experience and their advice will get you killed.

Ride safe, good luck and stay the f'uck away from minivans!

a great bike for a first timer is the Kymco Venox, this can be bought here in the states for about 3 to 4 grand and is a 250cc, but looks like a 650-750 bike. It is a cruiser type looking bike with great lines. Great gas mileage and is easy to handle. Look it up on the computer, they rate them very well from consumer reports and the parts aren't too bad to find.

It depends on what type of biking you would like to do AND how much you want to spend. Huffy, Raleighs, and Treks make very good mountain bikes. Trek, Cannondales, and Scott bikes are EXCELLENT road bikes but tend to get expensive. If you really don't want to spend too much, I suggest you go to your nearest rei location, target, or sports outlet to check out bikes. If you are willing to spend a little more, go to just an average ordinary bike shop. You will find a large array of choices and most bike places will measure you and make sure you are a perfect fit on your bike.
I just recently bought a trek bike a few months ago after a LONG stint of not riding. I LOVE it! Good luck to you and I hope the following sites help!

Usually they say for starters, they should be better off with a 600cc motorcycle because its just as fast as any other bike and its not that much tourque, as your problem for starters is that it seems that the bike pulls really hard and you'll be scared of it for like a month...

it depends if you have any experience riding. but I recommend that you buy a kawasaki ninja 250cc. it is only about 2999 on the website but you can probably find a last years model for about 2000. go check it out at the kawasaki website. it is under sport bikes.

one of the best bikes for a starter is a yamaha yzf r1 or r6, nice bike got 600cc to 1000cc if u got a hooked up one, normal is like 600cc for r1 but not for r6 and has diff colors, look for one on ebay motors, but be careful who you buy it from or get one from yamaha dealer. this bike is really nice, exellent performance, am gonna get one too. and easy to do a wheelie on if you are trying to, and it looks nice.
