Iwould like to buy flooring for my granddaughter for her living room and hall but it is such a big area that i dont want to pay over the top i live in widnes near liverpool.

Try the local reclamation yards. There you should find everything from old school floors, parquet floors, stone flags etc. You should get a bargain because of the area required. A friend of mine put down a floor of shuttering pine. That's the stuff they board up broken shop windows, and yes, I thought it would look a mess, but after it had been sanded down and yacht varnish applied it looks very good. If you have any money left over,pop to Ikea and buy a nice rug.Cheap and hardwearing.

laminate flooring is cheapest from ikea, but the expense will be in getting someone to fit it if you don't know a family member who can. carpets are cheapest from remnant centres, big companies appear cheap until they add on the grippers, glue etc, and you realise the cheap carpet they advertise are cheap polyester, wool is way more- but i managed to carpet a hall stairs landing and double bedroom in wool for £140 inc underlay, fitting another £100 on top but you can call round people for quotes, stairs is more cos fiddly.

It all depends on what type of flooring you're after.

carpet right is about the cheapest for carpeting but you can get laminate for very cheap from B&Q, its worth taking the measurements to the store and they will work it out.
