Either the 1972 Olympic basketball final, or the 1985 World Series call in Game 6 by Don Denkinger that cost the Cardinals the Series vs. the Royals.

Definitely 1972 Olpympic Gold Medal Basketball game. The USA vs. USSR. The IOC offical in the stands, not even part of the officiting crew, OVERRULES the ref. on the court and thereby steals the game of the USSR. Team USA was so upset they did not pick up there silver medals! The IOC needs to reverse the call and award them co-GOLD medals! What makes this the worst is that the reversal came a person who has NO authority to overrule.

I would have to say the botched coin flip between the Lions and Steelers a few years ago. An incorrect call during actual play is more understandable than messing up the overtime coin flip.

Giving Rothlisberger a touchdown in the super bowl last year when he clearly was down before the goal line.

1966 world cup final, england - germany, giving the 3:2. that ball was NOT in!
edit - hey, non-americans, where are you? would be great to have something else here that doesn't refer exclusively to us sports...
