Powerful in what sense?
George Bush seems to have a fair amount of power but I wonder how much of it is his own and if left to make decisions all by himself if he could handle it.
Tony Blair - mostly power over his own party and that's dwindling.
Osama Bin Laden has quite a bit of power as no one knows where he is (or do they?) and he rarely makes any sort of appearance and yet many of the countries of the north now revolve around the fear he's created. But he's not a free man in the sense that he can go where he wants in this world or be public, so how 'powerful' is that.
Nelson Mandela has quite a lot of power just by virtue of who he is - a symbol of courage and human spirit. When he speaks, people listen.
Ditto Dalai Lama.
I expect there are scientists who could be on this list - people researching all sorts of things that could change our world for good or bad.
Bill Gates? Maybe. Money can be power and if Microsoft shut down tomorrow the world would probably grind to a halt.
How about the person (I hope it's a woman - we need one on this list) in charge of the big computer at Yahoo? They could bring several thousand of us to a screeching halt if they pulled the plug right now.

People once said J F Kennedy was the most powerful human in the world and look what happened to him.
It just shows that someone classed with no power can take it all away from you.

He who serves the human race is more powerful than he who exploits the human race. So that suggests the most powerful human being in the world today is anyone who does to others what he/she wants others to do to him/her. The golden rule.

There are many powerful people in the world.
For example: The chairman of the Federal Reserve.
The ones who sets the price of a barrel of oil.
The leaders of several countries. (USA, UK, China, etc,)
The one who can control or have the most influence concerning the affairs of mankind would be the most powerful human being in the world. I wish that I knew the answer to your question.

There are so many men in this world with powerful positions & money IT WOULD HARD TO SAY the head of several countys or head of powerful companies or head of churches BUT for your answer it would be the man that you think is the most powerful !!!

Seeing as you specified human being...
I would say Pres. Bush but I think people like Bill Gates and Oprah both have a lot of power themselves.
As for non - human answer it would definatly be satan as he seems to be really trying to do all he can these days.

George Bush, because the United States has all the dangerous weapons. (Of course, some we give to Israel, so they can take the lives of innocent Lebanese children)

Frighteninly enough George W Bush - well at least he has most power at his disposal - whether he can use it well is another matter I am afraid.
