No it will not be easier because once you have wiped your old hard drive, effectively this is what you will have ..a new hard drive and you will still need to know where to go & what to do from there..even before there ..because you may have needed to make a startup disk before you wipe your hard drive
Look, what you are asking is easy to do (very tedious though). It is not easy to explain in a forum like this. Do yourself a favour & get someone to show you or at least talk you through it over the phone.
I shall say this though....make very very sure that you have backed up everything you need incl. passwords program install files..etc etc

Shanghai Terry
I presume this is a follow-on question to your previous one about needing to reformat your hard drive.
I don't know why you need to reformat your hard drive - typically this means that something has seriously gone wrong.
Am I right in thinking you are something of a novice at computing?
If so, then I would recommend taking your computer to a shop to get it fixed, or finding a knowledgeable friend who can come in and do it for you. Neither task should be attempted by someone with only a little knowledge of computers!
If, for financial reasons, you must do one or the other (you have got a backup of all the programs and data that was on the hard drive, haven't you...?) then what you need to do is:
- if you did not create an emergency boot-up disk when you first got the computer, and there was not one supplied with it, then purchase a copy of the Norton software (Disk Doctor?) to create one
- if you do not have a copy of the operating system on CD (e.g. Windows XP) and it was installed by the manufacturer (often called OEM install or Original Equipment Manufacturer) then contact them to get a copy on CD. There may be a charge for this, but if your computer is still in its Warranty period, then make a claim at the same time!
- when you have both, then reformat the drive (see the previous question's answer) or install the new one
- insert the floppy with the Emergency boot-up on it and switch your computer on
- when it has booted, insert the Operating system software CD and follow the instructions.
-re-install your programs and data from backup
Finally, if your back-up is non-existant or does not restore (it happens) there are companies that specialise in data recovery from crashed disks. They do charge a substantial amount for this service.
The other option is to do what most people do every 3 years, and buy a new computer.
Good luck!

Sorry shanghai.terry, I missed the other post/question that sweeteglantine02 refers to. Questions tend not to follow in sequence. Maybe you could have put a link to your earlier question so that people could see what, exactly, the problem is.
If you can give a bit more information on precisely what's happening, I'm sure you'll get more legitimate answers.

You advised us which you think of that's the HD, yet by no ability let us know what's misguided with it... so complicated to provide help to realize what to do... specific try a sparkling complicated tension, fixes each little thing!
