Most of the corn fields around here are about ready for harvest but we noticed that almost all of them?

have been cropped off it the top. The stalks are cut the same height. Looks like a giant crew cut. Can anyone tell me why the farmers do this to their corn now?

Seed corn! What they are growing is seed corn for next year. They cut the tassels off to stop cross pollination and keep the strain pure.
