Think about why you think you "need" a phone. Are you often out in places where you need to call for a ride AND there is no pay phone? Or is it because all your friends have them? If it's REALLY just because your friends have them, your parents aren't likely to think it's important.

If your parents say it's okay, I agree that a tracfone is best, as you know right away how long you can talk without adding more minutes. (And those minutes ARE expensive!) If you have a way to pay for your own minutes, fine - otherwise get a tracfone (about $20) and the least number of minutes you can buy and REALLY just use it for emergencies. (And, no, asking your best friend what she's wearing tomorrow is not an emergency - keep it for when you're on a land line.) But you can have that bulge in your pocket so everybody knows you carry a phone, if that's what you want.

Remember, your parents survived high school without cell phones, so they may just think you can do so as well. And just maybe you can! You shouldn't be yacking during school or movies anyway, and chances are there's a pay phone you can use for a lot less money than a cell would cost.

A good thing to do is pay the $10.00 a month that it adds for an extra line, I know cingular has that. Just make sure you don't go over your minutes. Or you can buy a prepaid phone, and you can pay for it when ever you need minutes put on. I think 13 is an appropriate age for a cell phone.

At age thirteen do you have a stable job making money? If not, bad idea. Cell phone bills do occasionally hit a record high. You would inconvenience your parents when they have to pay another bill each month. Maybe just asking for a pre-paid will be better that way they can limit your talking time and it is their choice to add more minutes or not.

i got my cell phone when i was 11 (now 13). i needed one because of those reasons too. My parents actually got me one because we were starting a famiiy plan and thought that they couldnt add another line when i was completely ready to get one (in the future i can tell you plans are going to cost way more than they do now). so we just want to keep this plan.

but i think you should get a prepaid and if they want they can get you one with a plan or a family plan.

start with a prepaid phone and you only pay when you need to and no bill.but with a plan you HAVE to pay every month and you get a bill and pay for it but if you have a pre paid you dont need to pay anything if you run out of money or something just pay when you want

you may be able to do that, but make sure that you use it for emergencies only so the cost is low and your parents don't get a high bill - then they will take it away and you may not get one again for a LONG time.

Yes you do. Get ur parents to get you a prepaid tracfone. They're cheap. Do all your chores & schoolwork & be good & you can get it.
