I live in Melbourne, Australia.
Gun control was introduced here in 1996 after some asshole went on a shooting spree and killed 35 people in an afternoon.
Ten years after gun control was enforced....
~Shootings are at an all time high
~Bad guys still have guns, honest citizens dont
~Firearm related offences have increased by 65% on 1996 figures
~Preferred method for armed holdup is blood filled syringe, followed very closely by guns
Gun control is a good thing. See these days, if I am at the ATM withdrawing cash, and some junkie pokes a 9mm Glock in my back demanding cash, I am quite proficient in beating the crap out of my assailant with my Mastercard.
Dripping with sarcasm, much?

NO! This is a free country not socialist and even though I have some questions about it really still being free (ie: smoking bans..which is simply prohibition) I want it to be MY choice whether I have a gun or not......not some politicians!. Guns don't kill people....people kill people! It's one of our freedom's. When that is taken away this is no longer a free country but communist. There is way too much Government rules now. I'm sick of the Government telling me what I can and cannot do with my life. If guns are illegal the only one's that will have them are the criminals. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

Besides all the obvious constitutional reasons and historical reasons that make gun ownership an absolute must in a free society, banning guns would never do anything to curb violence. Unless ofcourse anyone has an example of narcotic prohibition keeping the criminal element from using drugs.

No, I don't. It's in the Bill of Rights. I do, however, support the right to ban people from carrying guns in public. That helps keep *some* of the violence down, IMHO. And, it's usually a regional ban, so if you want to carry a gun in public, put it up for a vote and campaign for your rights, or move somewhere where it's ok. I also support a waiting period and background check. You have the right to own a gun, but you should have to prove yourself a safe and lawful citizen first.

You need to define your question better.
As for rifles, No I think everyone should be able to have them
Small arms such as the 9mm and glochs should have a much longer waiting period and the person should have to go through a saftey course on each specific gun they own.
Now as for automatic weapons and such YES there should be a ban on the civilian population having them. I have no qualms with law enforcement having them.
I also think the sells of ammunition should be tracked by a national network so that people can not buy so much throughout the year. I alos believe the NRA should be abolished because that group doesnt care who or what happens with guns just as long as they can own them and shoot them.. that to me is pitiful.

I used to be in favor of banning hand guns and assault rifles. These are no good for hunting anything except people and more criminals have them than legitimate citizens. This was before Bush.
Now that Bush is in office, I am dead set against any gun ban. The day may come when American citizens have to defend themselves against the government and we'll need all the weapons we can get.

No
And the reasons are:
When guns are criminalized only criminals will have guns.
When I lived in Mexico, guns were outlawed, yet used by criminals just the way they are here in the US. It only made the civilian population give up their guns. The drug dealers and criminals kept right on shooting each other and any cops that got in their way.
The right to keep and bear arms was an American principle that was into the Constitution. When that right is taken away, we have just given the power to the people with guns.

No I do not. Our right to bare arms is in the Constitution for a reason. If the population is unarmed, but the government is not it would be far easier for a dictator or a unelected government to take over. You see it all the time in other countries. The people are throwing rocks at tanks.

I don't support gun bans either. Its just a matter of Principal with me. I don't own a gun. But to me banning gun ownership is like censoring free speech.

I do, it's an idiot that thinks its alright to wander around with a weapon on them. Are you a wimp? Its cowards that arm themselves!!! A girl broke up with me the other month there, I was hurt obviously, but knowing that i'll get over it helps me move on. I read that in ny the other week, the same happened, so the guy walked into her place of work, and shot her dead. "Have you heard the phrase the lunatics are running the asylum?"
