First of all we should get people to vote. The U.S. has one of the worst % of voting of any democratic nation. An embarassment.
If someone believes a certain way due to their religion why should they change this? They shouldn't. They vote at what they think is right. Just because you disagree with it doesn't mean their not using their brains. It's just they believe a certain way.
The majority rules.

Why should they? Just because your brain cannot come to grips with another person's beliefs does not mean they exclude one another.
We are not a race of cold rationalism...just read these boards and examine what some of these "brains" present as intellectual proof...People of depth base their most important decisions on their core values, of which religion may (or may not) be a crucial element.
Our cultural heritage is based on freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM it. You have no more right to "get people to quit voting with their religion" than they have the right to force their views upon you.
My brain tells me that any system that chooses its citizens' core values for them is a totalitarian one. I'd vote against that one.

A person's religion is the basis for their values. To say that they should quit voting based on their religion is stupid. Your question assumes that religious people are stupid and cannot think. Why don't you stop voting with your ignorant brain? Do not like that question, then you understand how insulting your question is.
Besides, who crowned you God and gave you the right to tell others what to do.

What exactly is "voting with their religion?"
I've gone to church at 4 or 5 different denominations in my life & listened to the sermons of dozens of preachers. NOT ONCE has any preacher told the congregation who they should vote for or what party to vote for!
Many churches are passionate about such issues as gay marriage & abortion. I have heard a few preachers speak out against such policies, but only a few. My father was a preacher & he NEVER brought politics into his sermons.
If a person is passionate about education, they will likely vote for who ever serves the educational system best. If a person is passionate about crime & law enforcement, they will vote for who ever the feel will pass strict laws & enforce them. And if a person is passionate about the morality of their community, they will vote for who ever supports the moral standards they believe in. In each case, they ARE using thier brains.
(For the record: I am against trying to legistlate morality. Prostitution is a disgusting profession, but not only is it a persons right to choose who to have sex with, but outlawing prostitution has only served to drive it underground where it is easier to have under age girl & impossible to regulate sanitary situations.)

When someone gets convinced or someone convinces them that they're doing gods work it's almost impossible and that's why it's imperitive that religion and politics are kept seperate, but as we're seeing in this country and in the Middle East that's not happening,
and we're seeing the result.

Religion plays a big part in who and what people are. It helps define how they live their lives. This is using both their brain and heart.

I am supposing that you are targeting this to Republicans. I am an atheist and a Republican. BTW ... Bill Clinton had Jesse Jackson has a "spiritual guide" while he was in the white house. Hmmmmm!!!! Was that not "religious"? Come on people get off your "religion" bandwagon!!! Not all republicans are "religious" and not democrats are left wing nuts!!!

People have a right to feel a certain way about a certain issue based on their religion. And, they have a right to vote for the candidate who feels the same way they do about certain issues.
