Yes, it is considered rude to point at someone in today's society. I do alot of research on different groups such as witch's and similar religious groups. Persons practicing Voodoo believe that you can be affected by the evil eye. Pointing your finger at someone in other beliefs could mean something similar. It is just a form of symbolism. In manners and such it is thought to mean you are speaking about someone. That is rude. Just wanted to add another idea to why it is so. Hope I helped you out with your question.
