I think he had a crush on her and thought of it as love but never opened himself up enough to really know what love is until after he told Voldemort the prophecy and got her killed. Then the guilt ate at him, he went to the good side, and learned to open up his heart a little more (Dumbledore can have that affect on just about everyone).

I started to think about that in book 5 when Harry goes into Snape's past. I think Snape had a crush on Lily but was too shy to do anything about it.

I think that Snape had a crush on Lily, but I don't think that he loved her. You can't really love someone that you don't know and I don't think that he knew her very well. He probably thought she was beautiful, intelligent, kind and admired her talent at Potions. It may have bothered him that she was Muggle-born though, since he has his own issues with being a Half-Blood. If he liked her it would explain why he would hate James so much. It would make sense that he was jealous of the handsome, talented, popular Quidditch player if they were both after the same girl.

Yes I do, and I also think that Snape had a relationship with Petunia to try to make Lily jealous or so that he could be with Lily's sister (as close to Lily as he could possibly get).
I also think that Dudders is Snapes son...

I think Snape loved Lilly the same way Lupin did (:-O). Lilly always was a caring and compasionate person. People like Snape (and Lupin) were outcasts and Lilly was able to look past the skin and see the true "beauty inside when others couldn't" (who said that ... hmm). I don't think the love was unbridaled passion or anything like that, but that kinda love that you feel that is a step below the I dos stage.

Yes I do think that he loved Lily. She was kind, beautiful and brilliant at potions. It probably started out as a grudging respect for her talent at potions. Lily was probably nice to him but because Snape had such a horrible childhood, with an abusive father and a weak mother, that he never learned how to express himself properly so he would never be able to tell her how he truly felt.

No, he certainly did not. He actively despised her for being 'mudblood'. Recall the vision into Snape's memories that Harry had in the 5th book when he saw Snape and the Marauders taking their OWLs and later James abusing Severus. Lily asked James to stop, but then Snape insulted her.

Yes I think that Snape loved Lily but it was only a infactuation. But I think he grew more love for her through out the time that spent together.

I am not sure that he loved her but positive that she was very important to him in that she stood up for him. He holds enough resentment towards Harry because of James that his feelings towards Lily are not at the forefront.
