Columnar arborvitae. This is a tall evergreen shrub that you can plant closely to create a wall of green. You will love it. Home Depot was selling 4ft and 6ft high plants for $20 & $40.

Ficus trees but be sure to put tubes to water deep so the roots will grow deep and not out too. We had some in our California lawn and they grew like crazy. We were in that house for ten years and the ficus were planted as skinny 3 ft tall saplings and grew to be 25 ft tall and thick. We needed them for privacy in our backyard and they did the trick. We planted them within 5 feet of the block wall and that is why I suggest you put in tubes for deep watering because if they are near a wall there is the potential for disruption if you don't train those roots to run deep.

Maybe a poplar hybrid (http://www.greenwoodnursery.com/page.cfm/245)

Maybe a giant green cedar (http://www.greenwoodnursery.com/page.cfm/8125)

I've used these guys before, and they are about the best I have found. But most of what you can find at your local nursery like these examples will do fine. Just try to find whats best for your zone, I live in a zone 9.
